So you’ve been thinking of the changes you want to make in your life for some time and at long last have made the decision to do something about them…..yet you don’t actually take that first step and do something different. (Because that is always the first step: do something, anything which is a change from your normal routine, to set a whole series of changes in motion).

What’s stopping you? You may be stuck in the same place for various reasons which might include any or all of the following:

  • you think you already know how to do it

you did something similar years ago and are convinced that you already know  the procedures to do what has to be done. But things are different now. Customs change, technology changes, people’s attitudes change too. So your knowledge and skills from the past may not serve you well now.

  • you don’t like the idea of having to learn something new

If you are convinced you already know the set-up you may be resentful that you have to spend time and maybe money too to learn the new techniques. However your past knowledge won’t be lost, if you find the right teacher you will find that you are already on track to learn how to do what you want to do in today’s environment.

  • you don’t want to ask someone to do it for you

Some people hate to admit someone else might do the task more quickly or efficiently.  If it’s something technical and you don’t want to spend the time and energy to learn it and can afford to pay someone then find an expert who can do it quickly for you.

  • you avoid asking someone to support you

Everyone is encouraged by support and guidance, Though it’s about finding the right person to be there for you during a time of change. This might be someone near and dear to you or could be a coach or a mentor who will be a non-judgmental person without their own agenda interfering.

  • you are scared of change

Fear is the reason many people know they want to change, what they want to do differently and yet stay stuck because it really does feel scary to change habits of a lifetime, to deal with possible reactions from those around you and start to live your life in a new way. To get over this  fear you need to ask yourself exactly what you are frightened of, or whose reaction do you most dread if you do what you say you want to do.  Then work out ways to get over that fear so you really can change your life!
